Math World

For families and schools

Share a short math lesson without creating child accounts

Math World is a local-first learning application. Children can choose a habitat, or an adult can create a bounded lesson link containing only the selected game, lesson, mode, and session length.

Ready to try: Math World is built for supervised family and classroom use. Before the first class, run the five-minute check below on the Chromebook or tablet children will use.

Quick classroom setup

  1. Allow https://hexmod.com and https://www.hexmod.com.
  2. Open https://hexmod.com/math/. Installation is optional.
  3. Use Create a lesson link to choose a registered lesson and a predictable 6, 8, or 10 encounter session.
  4. Share that invitation through the school’s existing classroom tool. It contains no child name, answer, score, or recovery code.

Five-minute school-device check

  1. While online, open Math World and confirm that all 12 habitats appear.
  2. Create one six-encounter lesson link, open it, answer once, reload, and confirm the progress or Growth remains.
  3. Use Tab and Enter on a keyboard—or touch on a tablet—to start the lesson and open Help. Try the browser at 200% zoom.
  4. Use full-screen if the school allows it. Installation is helpful but not required.
  5. After the first online load finishes, disconnect the network and reopen Math World plus the checked lesson. Reconnect before testing recovery-code backup.

Browser and device requirements

  • A current browser with JavaScript and local browser storage enabled.
  • Keyboard, mouse, and touch are supported by the learning games; browser zoom is permitted.
  • Fullscreen and installation are optional. Ordinary browser play remains available when school policy disables them.
  • Popups, notifications, camera, location, third-party cookies, and third-party runtime services are not required.

Saving, backup, and recovery

  • Progress saves locally on the device first, so a network interruption does not block learning.
  • Anonymous recovery-code backup uses the same HexMod domain and requires a network connection.
  • A recovery code grants access to its saved progress. An adult should keep it private and never place it in a lesson URL or public document.
  • If school policy clears browser storage, restore with the saved recovery code. Without one, cleared local progress cannot be reconstructed.

Offline behavior

  • The first online load prepares the Math World shell, chooser, and core offline files.
  • Open the lesson you plan to use once while online before relying on it offline; the five-minute check above verifies that exact path. Installation is optional.
  • Save and health APIs are never put in the offline cache. Local progress continues and backup can retry later.
  • Updates wait for approval outside an active game instead of interrupting a lesson.

Privacy and reports

  • No child account, name, exact age, school roster, location, or advertising identifier is requested.
  • Lesson invitations contain instructional choices only. Recovery secrets are kept out of launch URLs.
  • Learning reports distinguish supported and independent practice; shared Growth is not presented as mathematical competence.
  • This page describes the application’s behavior. It does not make a legal FERPA, COPPA, or district-policy compliance claim.

Accessibility

  • Controls have visible keyboard focus and minimum touch targets; important meaning is provided in text, not animation alone.
  • Reduced-motion preferences are respected, sound is optional, and the games no longer block browser zoom.
  • Lesson links open the named activity directly while keeping Help available.
  • If a child uses ChromeVox or TalkBack, include that tool in the five-minute device check and tell us which lesson caused difficulty.

What to notice during use

Use voluntary adult notes rather than child analytics: whether the child started independently, understood the mathematical model, found Help, completed the bounded session, noticed the habitat response, and resumed successfully after an interruption.

Afterward, ask: What was fun? What was clear? What felt frustrating? Did any control, sound, motion, text, or math explanation get in the way? What do you think you learned?

Date saved

Keep this card private. Anyone with this code may be able to open the saved progress. Never post it in a lesson link, classroom stream, photo, or public document.

To restore: open Math World on the intended device, choose the relevant game, open Recovery, and enter this code with an adult.
